I am a first year masters in CMU HCI. I graduated with department honors from UC San Diego with a B.S. in Cognitive Science and specialization in HCI. I have had experience doing several projects involving ethnographic studies in interactive/distributed cognition, cognitive development, and research in collaboration and coordination, including a thesis on information visualization of procedural instructions. I have a diverse range of interests within HCI, currently involved in projects on ubiquitous and context-aware environments, mobile UI design, intelligent products, and service design. I have the most experience in research and user studies. My other interests include rock climbing, food, and modern art.

Since arriving at Carnegie Mellon, I've participated in team projects on the subjects of management in virtual environments, an interface for a learning algorithm trained in routine online tasks by silent observation (under the RADAR project), and human interaction with embodied robotic social agents as semi-autonomous intermediaries. My specialty is in qualitative human information gathering and analysis.
After being awarded a University Scholarship I matriculated to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County as a Computer Science major, but graduated with a BA in Cultural Anthropology after deciding that the two fields have a certain amount in common. Besides a year spent studying abroad at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, I've spent months traveling in China, the Middle East, and Europe, practicing my degree and gathering the background information that ultimately led me to become interested in HCI.

I went to CMU as an undergrad - majoring in Communication Design and HCI - and am happy to be back as a master's student. My interest in HCI emerged as the natural intersection of my two passions, visual design and technology, and through classes with CMU's Entertainment Technology department. I'm interested in emerging technologies, visual design, and what forms interaction with technology can take to improve people's lives. In my free time I draw on paper and on the computer, do 3D modelling, reads books, waste time on the internet, travel, and engage in subterranean urban exploration.

I got interested in Human Computer Interaction while an undergrad at Carnegie Mellon in Cognitive Science. After double majoring in Cognitive Science and HCI, I returned to Carnegie Mellon for a Masters degree. I have spent two summers working at Bose Corp as a User Interface Intern, doing design, documentation and prototype development for a new product launching this year.

I am a senior in Cognitive Science and the accelerated MHCI program from Boston, Massachusetts. I applied to the HCI program in my sophomore year after deciding that I did want to pursue CogSci to the graduate and postgraduate levels. My HCI experience outside of class includes working on the DigitalSelf project and the RADAR project at CMU; and working as a User-Centered Design intern at the Hartford Financial Group in Hartford, Connecticut.
